What to expect at your evaluation

At a HeartMate II Center, doctors and other healthcare professionals, dedicated to providing advanced treatments for heart failure, will meet with you and/or your loved one to discuss therapy. The medical team will assess the degree of heart failure and other health factors to determine if HeartMate II is an appropriate therapy.

The first office visit may take several hours, so be prepared for a little time away from home. This will probably be the first of many visits. Bringing a book or other things to do can help pass the time. It may also be a good idea to bring a friend or family member to take notes and provide support. It is important that loved ones learn about treatment options, too.

The doctor may recommend HeartMate II as a Bridge to TransplantationX CLOSEBridge to Transplantation –Temporary support forpeople with heart failure who are waiting for a heart transplant. Destination Therapy refers to the implantation of a ventricular assist device (VAD) for long-term use, rather than as a Bridge to Transplantation.. Destination Therapy is an option for people who do not qualify for a heart transplant.

HeartMate II is the only LVADX CLOSELeft ventricular assist device (LVAD) –A device implanted into the chest to helpthe heart pump blood. FDA approved for both Bridge to Transplantation and Destination Therapy.
